Fred Doyle Owenby, 95, of Candler, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center.
A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Owenby was a son of the late Otto Herman and Callie Jordan Owenby. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Marie Boyd Owenby, grandson, Josh Owenby, and son-in-law, Charles Chandler.
Mr. Owenby was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Stencil Aero Engineering and was instrumental in the development of ejection seats for fighter aircraft. He was an avid woodworker and musician.
Surviving is his daughter, Kathleen Chandler; sons, Kenneth Owenby (Laura), Dennis Owenby (Kristi) and David Owenby; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a brother, Roy Owenby (Ida).
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 10, at Pisgah View Memorial Park, with the Rev. William Moore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alzfdn.org.

Sorry to hear about the loss of Fred. I worked with him many years at Stencel Aero Engr. He taught me much about machine shop work. Very talented in his work! I,m sure he is in a much better place. Will be praying for his wonderful family. Wade Maynor
