Evelyn Johnston Roberts, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Hendersonville. Born and raised in Avery's Creek, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Ruth Moore Johnston. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Zeke Roberts, who died in 2001; one sister, Lucille Heffner; two brothers, S.E. Johnston, Jr. and Neal Johnston and son in law, Calvin Meece. Evelyn was employed by the Buncombe County Clerk of Superior Court as a Deputy. An avid supporter of the Democratic Party, she was a past President of the Democratic Women, a member of the NC State Employees Association and was also a former member of the Skyland Fire Department Auxiliary. She was also a member of Avery's Creek United Methodist Church, where she has served as Communion Steward and Worship Chairperson. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Ruth Roberts Meece. Evelyn adored her two dogs, Sophie and Precious. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 4 at Avery's Creek United Methodist Church with Reverend Frank Ramos officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery and the family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Flowers are appreciated, but for those who choose, memorial donations may be made in Evelyn's name to Four Seasons Compassion For Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or to the Avery's Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 735 Butler Bridge Road, Fletcher, NC 28732. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
