Eugene S. 'Gene' Pettit

Eugene Simpson “Gene” Pettit, 84, of 5 Monte Vista Circle, Candler, died Monday, September 13, 1999, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Mr. Pettit was a son of the late John Broadus and Hattie Ruth
Simpson Pettit and husband of Erma Haney Pettit who died in 1996. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Pettit who died in 1986.

Mr. Pettit was retired from Strawberry Hill Press and Chase Bag and was also employed by American Enka for 30 years. He was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran and served for many years as a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #10 in West Asheville. He was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church since 1932 where he served as a Deacon and usher working with all five pastors.

Mr. Pettit is survived by a son, Roger Pettit of Candler; three brothers, Murphy Pettit of Tacoma, WA, Lester Pettit of Lexington, KY,
John Carroll Pettit of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and a sister, Dr. Peggy Pettit of Atlanta, GA.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton
Avenue with the Reverends Ken Lewis and James H. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah
View Memorial Park.

The family will receive
friends for one hour before the service at the funeral home.
