Resided in: Candler, NC

Emmett F. Wright, of 21 Hemlock Court, Candler, died Sunday, August 4, 2013, at the age of 105. Mr. Wright was born January 28, 1908, in Buncombe County, the son of the late James William and Sallie Mae Hampton Wright. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Merle Anders Wright, who died in 1986, and by two infant sons, Emmett, Jr., and Clarence Gordon Wright; granddaughter, Sherri Lynn Wright Camby; grandson, Danny Wright, great-grandson, Jesse Wilson, and brothers, Fred, Wade and Solomon Wright. He is survived by three sons, David, of the home, Joe (Bobbie) of Asheville, and Dan (Mickey) of Swannanoa; two daughters, Joyce Barnes (Ralph) and Alice Plemmons (N.T.), all of Candler; sister-in-law, Thelma Wright of Asheville; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces. Mr. Wright retired from American Enka after 37 years and continued to raise cattle until the age 99. He missed his wife very much, but he and his son, David, continued to live together and took care of each other. We will all miss him but especially David, since they were together so much. Daddy was truly a survivor. In his later years, even though his eye-sight failed, he did not become bitter, he got better. He had peace in his heart that passeth all understanding". We would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice for their care during his declining days. They made his life more enjoyable and he looked forward to seeing each one of them. They seemed to enjoy seeing him because his mind was so sharp. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with Chaplain Erin Miller and Mr. Frank Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
