Edward E. Loewe, 92, of Asheville, N.C., and formerly of Scranton, PA, Sarasota, FL, and Washington, D.C., died peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024. He was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1931. He and his parents escaped the Nazi regime in 1938, moving to Holland, and fled a second time in 1939, when they immigrated to the United States, where they settled in Washington, D.C.
In 1956 Mr. Loewe received his BA degree in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. He then served three years as a U.S. Air Force officer in England, after which he entered his three-decade professional career as an architect-developer. Thereafter Loewe returned to post- graduate schools to obtain MA and Ph.D. degrees in psychology.
Mr. Loewe formed his architecture and engineering company, Loewe Associates, Inc., in Scranton, PA, in 1963. This entity grew swiftly along the U.S. east coast, establishing offices in three states, and in Washington, D.C. Its design and building contracts included mainly large-scale corporate sector, hospital, university, federal and state agency, high density housing, and foreign government complexes, such as the Hungarian Embassy in Washington, D.C. In 1971 Ed Loewe added the Loewe Financial & Development Co. and Sarasota Properties Real Estate Co. to his holdings. These entities engaged in the design, development, and sales of Florida east and west coast gulf, ocean, and bay-front vacation and residential properties.
In the realm of public service, Ed served and chaired the boards of three universities, the Federal Health and Human Services Agency of Pennsylvania, and several corporate and non-profit agencies. His favorite hands on and financial contributions went into rescue work for small animals. Much of his estate will benefit just the four-legged creatures he loved. Finally, during his sixties his studies of, and fascination with human behavior, led Loewe to hold, for a decade, offices in non-profit public health agencies such as the Family Services Center of Asheville, NC, where he saw patients in need of psychotherapy without charge.
On the recreational-hobby side of life, Ed enjoyed forty-five years of tennis competition on the senior tennis circuit, painted in several mediums for 65 years, and wrote three books for publication.
Mr. Loewe is survived by his beloved daughters, Deborah H. Loewe, of Ithaca, NY, and Jennifer L. Chapman, of Asheville, NC. He also leaves behind his decades-long closest friend Nan Burnett, of Asheville, and his delightful early period wife of 26 years, Janet K. Loewe, of Clarks Summit, PA.
A memorial service is planned for a later date.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

May his memory be a blessing to you all.
My mother still recalls very happy memories of playing with Eddy in Germany when they were both very small and then spending quality time with him & family when posted by the USAF in England.
He was a remarkable man, who endured a number of challenges not of his own making but rose to defeat them (where lesser folk would have struggled to do so) and build a remarkable life and a loving family.
The Ballheimers send their love and best wishes to you all.
