E. Louis "Lou" Trantham, 95, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Aston Park Health Care Center. Born in Asheville, Mr. Trantham was a son of the late Ellsworth Louis Trantham, Sr. and Mary E. Rhymer Trantham. He served in the Pacific Theatre with the US Marine Corps during WW II and was a retired self-employed paint and wall-covering contractor. He was a member and former Deacon and greeter at West Asheville Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Jo Trantham; daughter, Carol Ann Hepler (Ron); grandchildren, Betsy Carroll (Brian), Becky Remmel (Todd) and Ben Hepler (Katie) and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Stan Welch officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the West Asheville Baptist Church Building Fund, 926 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806.

  6. Loving you from here Betty Jo! Perhaps Lou and Doyle have had opportunity to at least smile rejoicing hello to each other. Doyle made his journey to heaven one year ago today! 5:20 this afternoon to be exact marks our good-bye moment. Tender love and blessings to you, Prayers too!!

  7. I have never know anyone with such a calm demeanor and contagious smile.
    He was wonderful with his work and saved Pat and me on several occasions. Lou could make wall paper look so easy. He will be missed by so may and I know I will never forget him.
    Betty Jo I was sure you feel lonely know but please believe you are never alone. You are loved by so many.
    I hope Lou and Daddy are kicked back catching back on old times.

  9. My dear Betty Jo and family, I was so sorry to hear today that Lou had passed and that we missed the service. We were in Hilton Head and then Craig dropped me off at the airport to fly up here to Boston.
    You have been an angel on earth to Lou and an inspiration to ALL! God Bless and Godspeed Lou, you are done suffering and in a better place!

  10. Dear Betty Jo and family. I am so sorry to hear of Lou’s passing. I did not learn of his passing until yesterday. I really wanted to be at the service. I’m so sorry to have missed it. You and Lou have always been cherished friends to Merle and I. Faithfulness beyond words to us both. You were there each time Merle was in the hospital and beyond. Now Lou is rejoicing with all the precious souls that have passed on. Even though we’re many miles apart, our hearts are closer than ever. PSALM 16:15
