My parents were patients of Dr. Chapman for several years, and they often spoke of his kindness, gentleness and devout Christianity. He was the embodiment of the perfect physician and he will be remembered fondly for our lifetimes.
My condolences and sympathy to his family.
As a Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the mid 70’s, I always thought Dr. Chapman was quite an inspiration, and a great Physcian.
He will be greatly missed in the Medical Community.
May the Family be comforted in these days.

To the Family,
Dr. Chapman was the first Unit Medical Consultant for the Asheville Unit of NC Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services. He was always available to the counselors to answer medical questions and provide training on the many medical conditions we encountered in our work.He served our agency for many years.
Dr. Chapman was an excellent physician,as well as a kind and gentle soul. He loved his work as we all knew, but his deep and abiding love was for his late wife Frances and his family.
Many prayers and gentle thoughts are being sent to you from the Asheville Unit of NC Vocational Rehabilitation Services.

To Jess’s Family: In the early 1950’s I met Jess Chapman while doing my Operating Room rotation in the Nursing Program at Mission Hospital. From then till now he never lost his sweet disposition & his shining Christian faith. All through the years we sang together in Handel’s’Messiah’ presentations as baritone & alto soloists & formed a special bond, I believe. His sweet voice & manner will be sorely missed by both the medical & music communities of Asheville.
Remembering and honoring a great man and his family, at this time. Many fond memories of growing up with the Chapmans as family friends.
Dear Chapman Family,
I am so sorry for the loss of dear Dr. Chapman. He was a wonderful example for so many people. I will always remember his kind smile and his love for singing. I am particularly thankful for the many, many years of friendship Dr. and Mrs. Chapman had with my mother and father. May God wrap His arms around all of you during this difficult time.

To the Chapman family:
Doctor Chapman will be missed by many people. My family was fortunate to have your families freindship for many years. My Mother, Alice Weaver, use to love having your company @ her house and listening to you play her piano.
May the Lord wrap his arms around the family and give you the strength to manage the time of grief, as you work through it to the fond memories of family and times shared.
With deep regrets,
Old Man Weaver, David

We knew, respected and cared a great deal for Dr. Chapman — as a physician, our Sunday School teacher, and as a dear friend.
He and Frances always welcomed us cordially when we visited in their home and they shared their love and blessing with us when we had a problem or a joy to discuss with them.
Jesse and Jim, they were very proud (and rightfully so) of their two ‘boys’ and they loved to tell about your latest accomplishments or joys each time we saw them.
They both were a gift to all who knew them.
Dr. Chapman was always faithful to Christ, to his family and to his community. He exhibited Christ’s love and compassion throughout his life. He was a joy to know. Even though we miss him now, Heaven rejoices at his arrival!
