Douglas Elmo Obermiller, 80, of Candler, died Friday, January 1, 2016.
A native of Cameron, TX, he was a son of the late Walter and Nada McAnulty Obermiller. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Don Obermiller, and his sister, Ilynn Fuch.
Mr. Obermiller retired as a Field Supervisor for the City of Asheville Water Dept. He was a Shriner, a member of the Scottish Rite, and a 32nd Degree Mason, West Asheville Lodge #650. He was also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.
Surviving are his life long partner and soulmate, Hazel Norton; sons, JD (Lisa), Robert (Susan) and Bill (Lisa) Obermiller; step-daughters, Pam (Corbett) Reed, Pat (Derrick) Jackson, Peggie (Jonathan) Seay, and Paula (Martin) Moore; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mr. Obermiller will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Masonic rites will be performed by his lodge.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buncombe County Special Olympics, c/o Parks & Recreation, 67 Haywood St., Asheville, NC 28801.
His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home

I worked with Doug for several years wit the city of Asheville..He was a good person to work with with.He will be missed.
Our thoughts and sympathy for your and ‘our’ loss. Family is family in spite of the distances. May our paths eventually cross.
