DORIS VIVIAN KIRKPATRICK MANEY FAIRVIEW – Doris Vivian Kirkpatrick Maney, 87, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at the Flesher's Fairview Healthcare Center. Mrs. Maney was born March 23, 1924 in Buncombe Co. She was the loving wife of Donald E. Maney (deceased) for 66 years; daughter of William B. and Eva L. Kirkpatrick (deceased); sweet mother of Gary E. Maney (Martha) and Susan M. Andrew (Dewey); grandmother to Greg D. Warren (Debbie), Karen M. Davidson (John Cravener); sister of the late Pat K. Evans; sister of Betty K. Devaney (Jim) of Miami, Florida; great-grandmother to Brooke Davidson and Caitlyn Cravener, Grant and Drew Warren. Step-family members to include Scott and Daphene Andrew and family, and Stacy A. and Joe Arch and family. Also "Sparkey" her always faithful, by her side "puppy". She was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, and Cecil's Business College. Doris worked at Moore General Hospital while her husband was fighting in the war. She retired from American Enka Nylon Engineering Department in 1986, and was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. Doris was loved by many, especially her caregivers and others that assisted with loving her every day in special ways. Those in particular are Nancy Clemmons, Carolyn Alexander, Clara Johnson, Doris Hudgins, Barbara Cansler, Donna Smith, Carol Parker, and lifetime friends, Betty Austin, Dot Holt, and Ginger Jameson. Thanks to Buster and Judy Watts for always remembering Doris with caring thoughts. A special thanks to the caring, loving nurses and nursing assistants, Janet, Martha, Alyssa, Angela, Stephanie and others; custodial ladies Donna, Rose and Carmelita; laundry ladies and other employees and residents on Hubbard Wing including Dr. Culver at Flesher's Fairview Healthcare Center. Honorary pallbearers the family would like to recognize are The Honorable Lanier Cansler, Rod Hudgins, Don Cloninger and a special CNA Kenny Teague who made her laugh. Anyone wishing to make donations in honor of Doris, please make them to Flesher's Fairview Healthcare Center Employee Fund, 3016 Cane Creek Road, Fairview, NC 28730. Services will be on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Stan Welch of West Asheville Baptist Church will officiate and burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.

    i’m sorry to hear of doris’ passing. my grandmother, edna scoggins helped don and doris while they still lived in bent creek. i would go up there with her to visit them and it always made me laugh when doris would get her precious puppy to sing . thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.
