Doris Charlotte Ledbetter Praytor, 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at the WNC Baptist Home.

A native of Buncombe Co., Doris was a daughter of the late William Shafter and Dessie Lola Hensley Ledbetter. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William Francis Praytor; sisters, Lorraine Giles and Faye Jump; and brothers, Jack, Glenn, and Billy Ledbetter.

Mrs. Praytor is survived by her daughter, Debra Hyatt and husband Johnny, of Leicester; son, Ricky Praytor and Kathy Hamilton, of Buncombe Co.; sisters, Martha Chambley and Betty Wilson; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Mrs. Praytor will lie in repose for one hour prior to the service, during which time her family will be present.

Her family gives special thanks to her caregivers: Sherry Hyatt, Kathy Hamilton, Carol Williams and Myra Price, and also to the staff of the WNC Baptist Home.

My children adored their Aunt Doris, and this ole’ world will not be the same without her. Go rest high Aunt Doris- you earned your wings a long time ago, but I’m glad Jesus let us keep you as long as he did. Thanks for being the sweetest Aunt and for always sticking by my side when the going got tough! Wish we all could’ve went together, but God had another plan~ I’ll see you soon tho.
