Donald Littrell, Sr.

donald littrell, sr.
Donald Littrell, Sr., 59, of 66 Kentel Road, Candler, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at Memorial Mission Hospital. “His body lies but still he roams.” Mr. Littrell was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Ted and Mollie Shook Littrell. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jaquetta Hayes and Eloise Cash. He was a diesel mechanic for Bobcat of Asheville until his retirement in 2001, and was a member of the Refuge Christian Center. He was an avid “coon hunter” and until his illness, one of his greatest joys was being out in the woods with his dogs and his “coon huntin” buddies. He had been a mechanic since his teenage years and really enjoyed taking many old cars apart and making one good one out of them. His old Cevrolet Silverado 4 wheel drive was his pride and joy. His last ride on this old earth will be in the back of that old, well loved truck driven by his sons, Tony and Donnie. A wonderful husband, father, brother and friend to many, he is survived by his wife Geraldine Lewis Littrell; two sons, Tony Littrell and Donald Littrell, Jr., both of Candler; two sisters, Brenda L. Hudgins and her husband H.G. of Asheville and Nina L. Miller and her husband Bob of Leesburg, FL; and four brothers, Tommy Littrell and his wife Betty Jean of Barnardsville, J.G. Littrell and his wife Joy of Weaverville, Robert Littrell and his wife Frankie of Barnardsville, and Roger Littrell of Tennessee. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday at Refuge Christian Center with Pastor Mike McGuire and Brenda McGuire officiating. Burial will be at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be his brother-in-law, HG Hudgins, Charles Mosely, Tom Fish and all his “coon huntin” buddies. His family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and at other times will be at the home of H.G. and Brenda Hudgins, 41 Mt. Carmel Drive. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Refuge Christian Center, 701 Riverview Church Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
