Donald L. “Sundrop” Harris, 61, of 4 Katie Lane, Swannanoa, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 31, 2005. Born in Rutherford County, he lived most of his life in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Marvin and Alga Bryant Harris. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry; a sister, Laura Mae and his grandparents. Mr. Harris worked for many years in the tire business as a heavy equipment changer and a four-wheel drive specialist. He was a member of State Street Missionary Baptist Church. His many joys included auto racing, Bingo and most of all his family. A beloved husband and father, Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy Harwood Harris; a son, Marcus Harris of Swannanoa; daughters, Donnell Harris of Swannanoa and DeeDee Buchanan and her husband Ben of Black Mountain; a son-in-law, Barney McClure of Weaverville; a brother, Ronnie Harris and his wife Kay of Black Mountain and grandchildren, Heather, Taylor, Jake and Preston, Pappaws joys. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Ronnie Harris, Chip Moore and Terry Sprouse officiating. His family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Harris’ name to Groce Funeral Home to help with expenses or one’s favorite charity.

  2. DEE DEE WE WERE SO SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR DAD’S PASSING. HE WAS SO KIND TO COME BY WHEN LINDA’ MOM PASSED AND HE CAME TO ERIC’S FUNERAL WHICH WE SO MUCH APPRECIATED.
