Dean Newton Holland, 77, of Candler, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Mission Hospital.

Dean was a native of the Gold Mine Community of Macon County but had lived in Buncombe County most of his life, having moved here at the age of 19. Dean was a son of the late Cleo and Birdell McClure Holland and he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Judy Holland Mashburn and Freda Holland Estes.

Mr. Holland began his career with American Enka in 1966 and retired in 2000 as a research technologist for BASF. He served as a volunteer firefighter with the Enka Fire Department and he was a member of Bent Creek Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors and was a skilled hunter, archer and fly fisherman. He loved the Lord, his family and his friends.

Surviving is his wife, Susan Kunath Holland; daughters, Dena Holland Clark (Steve), Gina Holland Saunders (Todd) and Jill Holland Rutherford (Brian); step-daughter, Lori Buckner; step-son, Dean Allan Holland; grandchildren, Mason, Miranda, Colby, Rachel, Carly, Payton, Luke, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Dean, Ryan, Maggie, Carly, Korbyn and Cain; and great-grandchildren, Layla, Barrett, Lincoln and Cooper.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, in the chapel at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler.
