David Lorain Brookshire, 74, lifelong resident of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 7th 2024 after a brief illness.
He was born August 6th, 1950 in Asheville to the late Lorain Balfour and Martha Williams Brookshire. On March 10, 1973, he married the love of his life, Sharon Phipps Brookshire, to whom he was married for 51 years.
David is survived by his wife, Sharon, sons, Matthew (Christy) of Asheville, Timothy (Blake) of Greenville, SC, and three grandchildren, Anna Ruth, Adam, and Marie. He is also survived by his brother Larry (Jolene) and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
David was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and served as treasurer. He was co-owner of the B&B Pharmacy, a West Asheville institution since 1953, where he worked for over 50 years.
David loved singing with the Asheville Choral Society and numerous other music groups throughout the years. He was a proud University of North Carolina graduate of the Kenan Flagler Business School and was a member of the UNC Men’s Glee Club. David could be found most Saturdays in the fall watching his beloved Tar Heels play football and looking ahead to the Green Bay Packers game on Sunday. He and Sharon had a passion for travel, to include cruising and their love of skiing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
David brought an enduring optimism to daily life, and his spirit of generosity and love will carry on in all of those whose lives he touched.

So sorry for your loss.

I was so upset to learn that David passed away. Although so saddened, it brought back old memories of the big reunions at Aunt Myrtle and Uncle Wilb’s house. Also remembering Balfour and Martha when visiting the B & B Pharmacy. Condolences to Larry & family and all of David’s family.
Much love, Nancie Liles
Sharon, I am so sorry to hear about your husband’s passing. May you find comfort in knowing many care for you.
Harrison and I were so very sorry to hear of David’s passing. What a blessing he and all of your family have been to our family over my entire life. Times with the Trinity Methodist Church and all of those saints. Singing with you all in the Choral Society for ages, we all had such fun, such great memories surrounded by love and music. May happy memories bring you comfort, and may you have Grace for this journey. We love you all!
So sorry to read David’s obit! What an amazing, talented, loving, interesting, joyous man he was!! A pleasure to spend time with. Our prayers for you, Sharon❤️
David was such a light in this world. He lived his faith every day. He was a wonderful friend and always made me feel special. My heart goes out to Sharon, the boys and grandkids during this difficult time. I love you guys.
We are saddened by the news of the passing of our cousin, David. We are thankful that Larry kept us informed of his struggles and wish that he had succeeded in his battle to get better. Please know that you are in our thoughts.

From the time we were children growing up together David was a source of wit, seriousness and heartfelt love to those around him. My heart is broken. Prayers for Sharon, Mathew and Timothy and their families.
I can’t put my feelings of loss into words yet about loosing this true and dear friend of 60+ years. My heart weeps.
Deepest sympathy to Sharon and family. I sing with David and Sharon in the Fletcher Community Chorus. I know these will be difficult days as they move through these days of deep mourning in the loss of their Husband and Father.
You will be remembered fondly. Sending my condolences to the family.
Sharon, you and Matthew and Timothy are in my thoughts. My memories of you and your adorable boys at UNCA so many years ago are still so vivid. My deepest sympathy to you all.
David, I will miss you in chorus. Sending love and prayers to Sharon and your loved ones.
Sharon my prayers are with you and your family, so sorry to see that David has passed. I enjoyed singing with him and you many moons ago at Fletcher CC. May you be surrounded by peace and wonderful memories.
Dear Matt, Christy & Family, I am so sorry for your loss & pray the Lord’s presence would supply you with His comfort & peace at this sad time.
I am so sad to learn of David’s passing. He and Sharon were such wonderful supporters of the Asheville Choral Society. I always enjoyed his sharing of his lifelong support of my home state football team- the Green Bay Packers!
So many wonderful things to be said about David – and SHARON, about you & David as a couple! There are no words to bring ‘all-soothing comfort’ at this moment. Just the knowledge that two deserving lives have been lived in the best possible way . . . together! But as we both know . . . there’s no better evidence that Heaven really is there than . . . David Brookshire! Like so many others, I feel blessed to have known both of you for most of our lives. You and the boys are in my most loving thoughts and prayers. joey moore
