Daniel Douglas Weaver, 87, of 373 North Turkey Creek Road, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 19, 2018 at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Born on February 23, 1931, in Buncombe County, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Jeri Gail Miller Weaver, and his parents, Stanley Hale and Mabel Gladys Williams Weaver. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Weaver, and a twin brother, Donald Weaver. Mr. Weaver was a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church (2000-2018) and Mt. Carmel Baptist Church (1962-2000). He served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Weaver served in the US Navy, 1950-1954, and is a veteran of the Korean Conflict. After military service, he attended college, graduating from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1959. After graduation he began his life-long career as a computer programmer for the Air Weather Service in Asheville. Mr. Weaver kept bees, producing honey and wax candles, and was active in the Buncombe County Beekeepers Association. He also enjoyed golf, fly fishing and keeping a garden. Mr. Weaver is survived by his wife of 18 years, Marlene Jane Smith Weaver; three children, Douglas Weaver and wife, Lisa, Dana Fitzsimmons and husband, Mark, and Tricia Wallace and husband, Curtis; grandchildren, Danielle, Jeremy, Adele, Kyle, Evan, Patrick, Preston, Taylor, Keri; and great-grandsons, Granger, and Hawkins. A celebration service for Mr. Weaver will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, at Beulah Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Wolfe, Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen, Rev. Dr. Mark Fitzsimmons officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Green Hills Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends the evening of Monday, April 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church, 373 North Turkey Creek Road, Leicester, NC 28748. Mr. Weaver’s family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff at Mission Hospital and CarePartners Hospice for their loving care and guidance.

  10. Doug, Sorry for the loss of your dad. I was in that place 10 1/2 years ago and it isn’t easy but it does get better with time. The missing is still there but you gradually begin to develop more interest in cherishing the memories. Will be praying for you and your family.

  13. Sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. He and his twin Don and their families were always present at the annual Tribe of Jacob reunions in Weaverville and both will be missed. My mother, Dorothy B. Weaver, who taught English, talked of teaching both Dan and Don at Weaverville High School in the 1940’s.
