Connie Nichole “Nikki” Sluder, 11, of 16 Monroe King Drive, Leicester, went to be with Jesus Friday, May 4, 2001, at her home following a courageous lifelong battle against cancer. She was a fifth grade student at West Buncombe Elementary School and was a member of Richland Baptist Church where she was a member of the Juniors Sunday School Class. On April 21, 2001 the Friends of Santa Claus made it possible for Nikki to attend a George Strait concert who was her favorite country music artist. She loved horses, and animals and for the last week has enjoyed catching fish. She is survived by her parents, Jeff and Angie Barnes Sluder; her maternal grandparents, Charles and Janice King Barnes; and her paternal grandparents, Wayne and Kathryn Justice Sluder all of Leicester; paternal great-grandparents, Donald and Della Sluder, and Flora Justice; maternal great-grandmother, Helen Barnes, all of Leicester; uncles and aunts, Tony and Lynn Sluder, of Candler, Wayne and Melissa Barnes of Eden, NC; and a number of cousins. Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Richland Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack R. Gassaway officiating. Burial will be at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7 - 9 p.m. Saturday at Richland Baptist Church. Nikki’s family would like to express thanks to all those who have helped during her illness. Memorials may be made to Friends of Santa Claus, c/o Matt Burt, 1 Summercrest Circle, Simpsonville, SC 29681.

  2. Niki was in my class this year. I only talked to her a few times, but every time I did she was very nice and she never put anybody down.
