Clarence Ayers Chappelear

Clarence Chappelear, 81, of Mildred Avenue, Asheville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 26, 2003.
A native of Lavonia, GA, he was a son of the late Rubin A. and Cordie Sheriff Chappelear. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Herschel Allen Chappelear and Dan Marvin Chappelear; two sisters, Buna C. Tow and Mabel C. Russell; a nephew, Willard Swilling and a niece, Jane Chappelear. He was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran and a retired electrician.
Mr. Chappelear is survived by three nephews, James Chappelear of Rock Hill, SC, Todd Chappelear of St. Louis, MO and Robert Chappelear of Fletcher with whom he made his home; two nieces, Elouise Swilling White of Asheville and Dr. Joann Chappelear Himaya of Louisiana. He was greatly loved by his great-nieces and great-nephews and his great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Monday at Cedar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend George Patterson officiating. Military Rites will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team.
His family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
