Charles "Mickey" Furman Brunson, Sr.

Mickey Brunson, 79, passed away peacefully Friday, July 13, 2012 in Asheville, North Carolina. Mickey was born January 19, 1933 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Lauretta Baker Brunson and John Henry Brunson. Following military service and college, Mickey relocated from Louisville, Kentucky to Bradenton in 1972, where he and his wife, Marian, owned and operated Suncoast Paint Center for over thirty years and Ellenton Paint Center for over twenty years. In 2005, Mickey and Marian retired to Bryson City, North Carolina, where Mickey enjoyed remodeling their home and watching the deer and wild turkey graze on their hillside. Preceding Mickey in death were his three brothers, James, Jack and Robert Brunson; four sisters, Frances Denton, Elma Stafford, Sarah Zemp and Emma "Snookie" Marshall; and stepson, James Bryson. Mickey is survived by his wife Marian; son Charles F. Brunson, Jr. (Shelley) of Bradenton; daughter Amy Summers (Glenn) of Louisville, Kentucky; stepdaughter Susan Bryson Speckert (Christopher) of Lexington, Kentucky; sisters Harriet Bruce of Raleigh, North Carolina and Jackie Partin of Greenville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Cory Barker, Bethany Brunson, Charlotte Brunson, Julie Ann Calhoun, Evan Bryson and Avery Summers; two great grandchildren; and, many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Mickey's memory to Crosswell Children's Home, 11 Crosswell Drive, Sumter, South Carolina 29150.
