Caryl Anne Houghton, 73, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
A native of Buncombe Co., Caryl was the daughter of the late Robert Allen and Martha Crook Houghton.
Ms. Houghton worked for many years as a media specialist for both the Buncombe Co. school system libraries and public libraries. She was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Iota sorority and had a deep love for dogs.
She is survived by her brother, George Houghton (Darlene); one niece, four nephews, and 11 great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she was very proud.
Caryl’s family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Pastor Allen Rash will officiate.

Miss Houghton was my teacher, then next year the librarian at Emma when I was in 3rd or 4th grade. All of us kids thought she was so cool wheeling into school in that orange 240Z. She was one of my favorite teachers ever. George and family you all are in our prayers. Doug and Caye King
