Carl Hudson passed away on May 6, 2018, at the age of 62 years. A native of North Carolina and son of the late Clifford and Jennie Kiser Hudson, Carl attended the DeVry Institute of Technology, graduated with a degree in Electronic Engineering Technology and the University of North Carolina at Asheville where he received a B.S. in Computer Science. In 1977, he began his engineering career with Singer-Kearfott in Black Mountain, NC where he was to spend his entire working career, initially in test equipment and ultimately in design engineering. Carl was complimented numerous times over the years by colleagues and customers for the quality of his work and he was very proud of Kearfott’s reputation for exceptional performance and reliability. Carl served on the board of United Services Credit Union for a number of years. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Teresa Whitaker Hudson, son Kevin, daughter Courtney (Brian), two grandsons Maddux and Brooks, sister Nancy Chapman, and brother Jerry (Emily). A Celebration of Carl’ s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 11 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, with burial to follow at Calvary Churchyard in Fletcher. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org).

  3. I have know Carl for a short time. I was amazed at how intelligent he was. He was always kind to me and I respected him very much. I will miss him.

  11. I can’t even find the words to say how sorry I am for your loss. Carl was my big brother. His family and mine were very close. He, Jerry and I were like brothers and sister. We were so close he even came and visited me when we moved to GA. I have so many pics and great memories of him. I was so lucky to reconnect with him on Facebook several years ago.   12. Teresa, we’ve lost a great man, Father & friend. I hope that you & your family find peace now that he is in God’s fold. He & I had some great times working together on leading edge projects here at Kearfott. We had fun times years gone by teaching Atari programming classes down at the All Souls Church in Biltmore. Great trips to Huntsville where he always had to find a barbecue place to eat. He always tried to help anyone in need. I will miss him for sure!!!

Carl was a very nice gentleman, and I considered him a friend. He loved his family, and was so proud of the grand babies! I will cherish the times we were able to share lunch together at the Blk Mtn Center, and the years our families spent on the ball field when Jess and Courtney were younger.   20. I worked with Carl for only a short time and only had few conversations with him, but immediately realized how brilliant, kind and thoughtful he was. My thoughts and condolences are with all his friends and family.

  21. I worked with Carl for 4 years at Kearfott and he was always a pleasure to interact with. Very smart and friendly. He was kind and down to earth in a challenging place to be. He was helpful to me on many occasions when I was struggling to find my way and reminded me to keep a stiff upper lip.

He came to my work station the day he retired to give me a goodbye hug, said he was going to go spend some time with his grandkids. To his family, you are all in my thoughts and prayers.   24. Teresa & family I am very heartbroken over loosing my neighborhood buddy and the one I took drivers ed with and went through all our elementary school years together. I had spoken to Carl maybe two years ago and send him the picture of our 3rd grade class per his request. So many good memories and was looking forward to a visit on our next trip to Asheville.

  25. To Carl’s wife Theresa and family, please accept my most sincere condolences. I considered Carl one of my best friends at Thompson Elementary School in Jacksonville, NC. I still remember him and I regret not keeping up with that friendship throughout our later school years in Jacksonville. He was a great guy then and I am sure he remained that way with all his family and friends.

  32. Teresa, I was saddened to hear that Carl had died, he was probably the best friend I had in Asheville. Joan and I had lunch with him on the Monday before that Sunday and he seemed in good spirits. Carl and I seemed to have a real compatible friendship, much more than a business relationship.

    I was sorry that Joan and I were out of town for the week and did not return to Asheville until the 12th, but we were praying for Carl and you and truly believe that Carl will be In the right place. If there is any way I can be of help to you don’t hesitate to ask.

  33. Carl was my friend. He was always giving me advice on how to balance work and family, and with my retirement. I was truly hoping he would come back and work part time at Kearfott in the future. He was a good man and I’m saddened by his passing.
