Our warrior, Brycen Jeremy Ashworth, 19, concluded his battle and received his reward on June 23, 2024.
An avid lover of music, Brycen was the son of Erin Ashworth, of Brevard, and Michael and Melissa Whiteside, of Canton. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Richard and Shirley Rymer, Jack and Barbara Whiteside, Harry and Ovid Smith, and Harry Ashworth.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his Nonnie, Sharon Gordon; his Nana, Laura Ashworth; his Poppa, Warren Whiteside; his Mimi, Amber Whiteside; his Poppy, Kenny Ashworth; his brother, Liam Whiteside; and his great-grandmother, Lula Ashworth. Brycen was also loved by his many amazing aunts, uncles, and cousins, both blood and adopted.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastor Tom Arnold officiating. The burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family offers special thanks to all those who cared for Brycen throughout the years, including his nurses.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating online to www.specialkidsfund.org to assist others in obtaining handicap-accessible vehicles. That was one of his family’s biggest challenges.

I am so so sorry for your loss! You have certainly been in my prayers.
I was involved peripherally in the care of Brycen, as his pharmacist. I witnessed, first hand, the extreme devotion and sacrifices that Laura and Erin gave to Brycen. Brycen was blessed to have such loving and devoted family and caregivers. Erin was one of my very special friends and customers at our drug store – even to the point of coming to my rescue in a physical altercation with a combative shoplifter – and I’ll
always be indebted to her for that. I haven’t seen the family in years but my recollection is one of Erin’s unmatched, sacrificial devotion to Brycen. She was a fantastic Mom !
