Asheville ~ Bob L. Henderson, 87, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife of 37 years, Dawn, on October 25th, while residing at the Solace Center, Asheville, NC. Bob was born October 6, 1925 in Roswell, SD, son of the late Joseph and Hazel Hurst Henderson. Bob served his country in the Army's 11th Armored Division as a tank operator where his tank was hit by enemy fire resulting in the loss of his leg. Bob was awarded the "Purple Heart" for Military Merit. Bob attended Greenville and Illinois Universities earning a Master's in Social Work and became the Director of Family Counseling Services. Surviving are his wife Dawn, 4 children, daughter Cherie Henderson of Asheville, and sons Timothy (Beth) Henderson of MD, William (Lynn) Henderson of NC, and David Henderson of OH. He is also survived by 4 stepchildren, Valerie (Charlie) Heggarty, William Constantine, Michelle (Fred) Landy, and Paul Constantine. Bob was also the proud grandfather of Elizabeth and Sharon Back, Sam and Mack Henderson, and Emily Henderson, as well as 5 step-grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Bob enjoyed family and friends. He was a wonderful artist, painting beautiful oil paintings, and his love of the Asheville scenery and landscapes were the subject of many of his works. Bob was also well known for his political mind and energetic debates with those willing to participate. He wrote many editorials for the Asheville Citizen Times. A Memorial Service will be held at the Solace Center, Belvedere Rd. on Friday, Nov. 2nd at 9:30 AM. Interment will be at the VA Cemetery, Black Mountain. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the charity of one's choice, to CarePartners Hospice or the American Heart Association.

  4. Dawn, I am sorry to see that ‘the love of your life’ has passed. I felt so happy that I had the privilege to have you and Bob as table guests at our JHS reunion. Jim and I first met Bob there and know what a nice man he was. I have always thought of you as a friend. May Bob rest in peace. I love you. Peggy
