Billy Edgar King, 73, of Fletcher, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Elizabeth House. A native of Burnsville and lifelong resident of North Carolina, he was a son of the late Eugene and Elizabeth Harris King. He was also preceded in death by one infant son, Larry Eugene King; two sisters, Mary King Barnwell and Betty King Barnwell, as well as one brother, Donald Eugene King. Baptist by faith, Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved everyone in his family and extended family and always enjoyed the time he spent with them. He was a professional long distance truck driver and a mechanic. He loved working on old Ford trucks and restoring them. The last one he restored was his 1970 F-100, which he loved driving around the country roads in the mountains. He is survived by his wife, Ann Simpson King; one daughter, Angela Louise King; three sons, Billy Darrell King and his wife René, Jason Floyd King and William Nathan King; one step-daughter, Barbara Woods Bumgarner and her husband, Andrew; three step-sons, Larry Woods Jr. and his wife, Kim, David Patrick Woods and his wife, Holly and Michael Robert Woods and his wife, Amy; two sisters, Rachel King Gurganus and her husband, Gene and Annette King Firkatoune; brother in law, James Edward Barnwell; eight grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for all of the love and care shown to us by our Hospice Team and staff at the Elizabeth House. Dr. Hicks, Connie, Jenny, Michael, Lisa, Cathy and Elizabeth House staff, you were all a special blessing and we will never forget all the loving care you gave to Bill and our family. God bless each one of you. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Emma's Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Gene King officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers are appreciated, but for those who desire, a memorial contribution may be made in Bill's name to Four Seasons Compassion For Life, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

  9. To the family. I’m Bill Harris’ daughter. I am very sorry to hear about Billy. As I was thinking about him I realized that from the time I was very young until the last time I saw him I can honestly say that I never saw him down or in a bad mood. His laughter was contagious and we all always loved Billy. How blessed you are to have had this wonderful person in your life. He will be missed by all who knew him.
