Bill Lewis Crook

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Bill Crook, a wonderful man.

He had a deep love for music, especially bluegrass and gospel, which filled his life with joy and faith. He was an incredibly talented square dancer and clogger, even having the honor of dancing at the Grand Ole Opry—a memory he cherished among many others throughout the years.

Bill was especially grateful for his many dear friends in both North Carolina and Tennessee. Those friendships were a true reflection of the way he lived his life—with warmth, kindness, and an open heart.

He also showed incredible strength and courage as he fought a five-year battle with lung cancer. Through it all, he remained resilient and full of spirit, an inspiration to those who walked alongside him.

I would like to especially thank the Asheville VA hospital – Messino Cancer Center, as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff on the fourth floor and ICU at Mission Hospital, for the exceptional care and kindness they provided.

While this world feels a little dimmer without Bill in it, we take comfort in knowing that heaven has gained another angel. His joy, his music, and his love for people will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Bill is survived by his partner, Pam Shinpaugh; former wife and friend, Catherine Crook; a daughter, Kim Deleon as well as many special friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
