Betty Burns McFalls, 93, of Fairview, NC went to be with her Lord on March 8, 2025 following a brief illness.

A native of Haywood County, she had been a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Geneva Harkins Burns and Ray T. Burns. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Howard McFalls and by three sisters, Martha Gilmer, Carolyn Mackey, and Patsy Mackey.

Mrs. McFalls was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where she served in the nursery for many years alongside her mother with whom she shared a close relationship.

She was the heart and soul of the family and was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. She enjoyed family gatherings filled with fun and laughter. She was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She had been a resident of Marjorie McCune assisted living center at Black Mountain for seven years where she was affectionately known as Granny by all. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, attending field trips and special events.

She is survived by a son, Tommy McFalls; grandchild, Adam McFalls; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Dewerff (Tyler), Nakiah Trexler, Chelsey Trexler and Sean Duncan; great-great grandchildren, Baron Dewerff, Ayden Dewerff, Geneva Annie Hensley, William Stevens and Clyde Stevens; and three sisters, Dorothy Warwick, Linda Briggs, and Sandra Harris (Steve).

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Babs Allison, her special roommate and Grant Helms for all his loving care he provided for Betty “Granny”. Also, a special thank you to all residents and staff at Marjorie McCune assisted living.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road with a graveside service following at Cane Creek Cemetery in Fairview, with Rev. Stacey Harris, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marjorie McCune Assisted Living facility, 101 Lion’s Way, Black Mountain, NC 28711.

  2. What a wonderful person always saying I always love you, hearing I lived on flat top mountain. She loved to tell us about her sisters. Seeing her sick was hard but she always had a smile for us, she knew we loved her “Grannie” you will surely be missed dearly at McCune Community.     I am so thankful to have had you as my great grandmother. I’m grateful my children got to have you and experience something that you rarely see in the world nowadays, your kindness, gentleness, love, care and patience.
    I remember watching the Atlanta braves with you on the couch at night and sitting in the sun on the porch during the day, that’s something I’ll always remember. You will forever be missed and loved. It’s never goodbye but see you later. Rest high on that mountain and tell everyone we miss them.
