Bashie Mae Griffin King

Bashie Mae Griffin King, 99, of Asheville, went home to Heaven on Friday, March 24, 2023, surrounded by her family who loved her dearly.

Bashie was a daughter of the late Jim Henry and Ida Mae Corn Griffin. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Jesse Howard King, and their son, Harold “Sambo” King.

Mrs. King was the rock of her family and was the kind of mother who would rather go hungry than take the last piece of pie. She will be remembered for her Saturday dinners, especially her chicken & dumplings, her love of crocheting and quilting, and for being the “three s’s:” sweet, sassy and stubborn! She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. King is survived by her daughters, Joan Worley (David), Darlene Teague (Tommy); three granddaughters, Tina Worley (Larry), Tonya King (Glenn), and April Barrett (Ricky); great-grandchildren, Tyler Anderson (Jenny), Trinity Anderson, Tristian Anderson, Taylor Masters (Austin) and Makia King; and great-great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Kaidyn, Kenna, and Kason Anderson.

Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. Mrs. King will lie in state the following day at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, where she was a long-time member, beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Bill Brown will officiate. Interment will then follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Luther, Tyler Anderson, Ricky Barrett, Larry Cook, Austin Masters, Glenn King, Juan Flores, and Bruce Guthrie.

The family gives their most heartfelt thanks to Beth Richards, Mrs. King’s Four Seasons Hospice nurse, and to Diane Edwards, who helped with her care.
