Barbara Elaine Lance, 80, of Arden, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Maybelle Rice Metcalf and was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister in law. She is survived by her loving husband, French M. Lance, Jr.; six sons, Michael Lance, Jeffrey Lance (Dianne), Steven Lance (Theresa), Eric Lance, Roy Lance (Marie) and Barry Lance (Kathy); one sister, Caroleen Payne; one brother, Calvin Metcalf, as well as eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and one more on the way. Barbara loved to cook and spend time with her family. She and French also enjoyed time spent with the Avery's Creek Senior Citizens Club. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2016 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that memorial donations be made in Barbara's memory to Four Seasons Compassion For Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

  1. Very sorry for your loss, Barbara is a happy sweet soul and she loved her family. It was obvious to see every time i was there. Take hope this life isnt all there is, we will all meet again in heaven. May God strengthen you all while you grieve.

  3. Heaven received a Beatiful angel today 11/16/16. Barbara is at peace in no more pain. She is smiling because is she her mom and dad. But most of all she is with Jesus. I know you have sorrow and pain in your heart and there is an emptiness it want go away but it will get easier. You have all you memores and the love both shared for 64 years together. May God give you comfort añd peace in your time of sorrow.

  4. I always remember Aunt Barbara having a smile and a loving and giving heart. I know she will be missed by close family and friends, but I also know that she is now joined with other close family and friends in Heaven with our Lord. I know that my father, Morris Lance will be glad to show her around at all the things that Jesus has prepared for her.

  6. I loved Barbara from the moment I met here. She was an awesome cook. My papaw (Henry Bugg) has told me many of stories about Barbara. I glad she’s no longer suffering. I’m sure she was welcomed to heaven by her brother and I’m sure pat and granny was there too. If i can do anything please let me know.

I will love you more today but not as much as tomorrow. it is a comfort to know you are with our lord and savior now and not suffering anymore. go with god in peace and comfort. always remember you are loved.   8. Rest in Peace Aunt Barbara. I have great memories of playing and exploring at your home whenever we would come visit.You were always sweet and gracious to everyone and will be missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with all the family.

  10. What a beautiful picture of Barbara! That’s how I will always remember her. I have such respect for her raising six boys and they all turned out so good. That speaks a lot of her and Jr. Avery’s Creek will miss her? Love to you Jr., boys, grandchildren and great grandchildren? May God grant you peace as you move forward and cherish those memories and make more. That’s what she would want?
