Audrey Louise Helms, 76, of 10-A Heather Way, Candler, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2007. Miss Helms was born in Buncombe County and was the daughter of the late William E. and Kathleen Beard Helms and was also preceded in death by a sister, Toby H. Watson and her husband Frank. She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church and a former Sunday School teacher, choir member and Women’s Mission group leader for many years. For 42 years Miss Helms was employed by Merrell Lynch Stockbrokers, 17 years in the Asheville office and 25 years in the Richmond, VA, office. She retired in 1990 as Administrative Manager and Assistant Vice-President. Survivors include her sister, Frances E. Helms of Asheville; a niece, Suzanne W. Lanning and husband Jim; a nephew, Frank E. Watson and wife Meg; three great-nieces; three great-nephews and two great-great nieces, all of Taylors, SC. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. L. Wayne Adkisson officiating. Private interment will be Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home immediately following the service. Memorials maybe made to Grace Baptist Church, 718 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806. The family would like to extend special appreciation to Mountain Home Care and Tarheel Home Care for the wonderful care they gave to Miss Helms.
