Born in:
Buncombe Co., NC
Resided in:
Asheville, NC
Arnold Bruce Smith, 74, of Asheville, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 1st, 2023. He battled heart disease for many years and was being care for by his daughter and family, with the help of CarePartners “in home” hospice care.
Born and raised in Buncombe County, Arnold will be best known for his giving spirit. He donated to youth leagues over the years, and his most recent charitable gift was to Crushing Cancer Jeep Trail Ride at Camp Cedar Cliff. Arnold loved helping people in their time of need. He felt led by God to help children, including creating a college fund for his granddaughters.
Arnold loved his family dearly, especially his granddaughters, Haley and Hannah. He watched them play volleyball as often as he could.
Arnold worked all his life in the automotive industry, from working at a car dealership to owning a small car lot and auto repair business. He created several lifelong friendships in the community because of his business.
Arnold is survived by his daughter, Cindy Pike (Chris); son, Arnold Bruce Smith, Jr.; granddaughters, Haley and Hannah; sisters, Janice Lamore (the late Bill Lamore), Shirley Green (Ronnie), Darlene Parrott (Vernon), Nena Wall and Kimberly McGraw (Trent); brother, Patrick Smith (Angie); and many beloved nieces, nephews and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Eugene Smith and Frances Hill Earwood and a brother, Eugene Smith.
The family will receive friends at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue on Saturday, March 4 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family will have a private service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donate, in his honor, to a local children’s charity of your choice.
