Benjamin "Frank" Ball, 94, of Asbury Rd., Candler, died Monday, November 7, 2011, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospital.
A native of Madison Co., he was a son of the late Luther and Sallie Wilds Ball. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Frankie Ball Lewis; grandson Chris Miller; sister Dollie Buckner; and brothers Ernest Ball and Andrew Ball.
Mr. Ball was retired from American Enka after 35 years. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Mr. Ball is survived by his wife of 69 years, Merle Flynn Ball; daughters Gladys Miller and husband Buddy of Candler, and Carolyn "Susie" Stewart and husband Tom of Sylva; son Ben Ball, Jr., and wife Susanne of Libertyville, IL; grandchildren Lisa Miller of Richmond, VA, Clay Hooker of Marshall, NC, Benjamin Ball, III of Owatonna, MN, Ashleigh Ball of St. Paul, MN, and Courtney Ball of Minneapolis, MN; and great-grandchildren Cade and Gavin Hooker of Marshall, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church, with the Rev. Derrick McCarson and the Rev. Stanley Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 875 Monte Vista Rd., Candler, NC 28715, and/or to Eliada Home for Children, 2 Compton Dr./PO Box 16708, Asheville, NC 28806.
