Roland C. Wright

Fairview ~ Roland Wright, 87, of Fairview, passed away Friday, January 9, 2004 in a local hospital following an extended illness. A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Wright was a son of the late Andy and Eva Henderson Wright. He was also preceded in death by a son, Eddie Wright, a granddaughter, Annette Cairnes, two sisters, Catherine Alexander and Martha Dycus and a brother, L.A. Wright. Mr. Wright retired from the Blue Ridge Parkway in 1979. He was an avid gardener and also enjoyed stock car racing. He was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Loretta Reed Wright of the home; a son, Jimmy Wright and his wife, Janice of Hoopers Creek; two daughters, Doris Hawkins and her husband, Ray of Leicester and Alice Smith and her husband, Steve of Asheville; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with Rev. Robert N. Wright officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Emmas Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will recieve friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
