Evelyn H. Davis, 80, formerly of Candler, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Mission-St. Joseph
Hospital.
Miss Davis was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Tennyson
M. and Dolores Hazelwood Davis. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin P. Davis.
She is survived by three brothers, Howard T. Davis and his wife Faith of Candler, Henry A. Davis of Hendersonville, and Gene T. Davis
and his wife Shirley of Vinton, VA, and a sister-in-law, Josephine E. Davis of Asheville.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with
the Rev. Cecil Fox officiating. Private burial will be at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

I used to help Evelyn pack her books and pencils and she was always appreciative. I’ll miss her laugh.
Evelyn used to joke around and make me laugh. I enjoyed helping her with her lunches.I’ll miss her and I’m sorry she’s gone.
One evening I was talking to Evelyn and asked her if she was still a good student and she said ‘yes’. We both started coming to school when the AB Tech program started almost 20 years ago. I’d be blue when Evelyn wasn’t present, but she hardly ever missed a day. I’ve always been very fond of Evelyn.God was good to let her live this long.Lots of us students will miss her.
Evelyn was a kind and respectful woman. I’m going to miss her coming to school.
I just came to Ab Tech and so didn’t have a chance to get to know Evelyn very well, but I’ll miss her a lot. She and I used to talk about politics and books.
Evelyn was my friend. She was a nice lady. She was friendly.She liked books.She used to write notes. I’ll miss her.

I loved Evelyn very much. She was a dear friend of mine. I was always covering her with her sweater when she was cold and giving her a little kiss in the morning to make her happy. I loved her writing. She’ll be with the angels.
Evelyn was the epitome of ‘Never Stop Learning’. She was always trying to improve her reading skills and to learn more about history to the end. None of my students were more avid about politics or current events. She was a trooper. She amazed me with her preserverance, her desire to be involved and productive. If there is a heaven she will be there and she’ll be able to do all the things she desired to do on this earth and she will be surrounded by angels who love her.
