Alma Kate Cathey Hutchison

Alma Kate Cathey Hutchison, 92, of Dogwood Drive, Candler, died peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Center with family members at her bedside. Mrs. Hutchison was a native of Buncombe County and was preceded in death by her parents, Zebulon Tildon and Rachel Florence Wright Cathey, her husband of 55 years, Frank L. Hutchison who died July 27, 2001, and by her sisters and brothers, Wessie Cathey, Ada C. Mintz, Madith C. Mauk, Sherrill T. Cathey, and Willis J. Cathey. She was a 1929 graduate of Candler High School and formerly worked at American Enka. She was a lifelong member and supporter of the Democratic Party and was a long-time member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church. She is survived by one sister, Vera C. Mallonee of Candler, a brother, Dan M. Cathey of Candler, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Sunday at Snow Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Neil Haynes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends immediately following the service and request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Snow Hill United Methodist Church, 84 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715.
