Cleatus Davis Cogburn

Cleatus Davis Cogburn, 91, formerly of the Biltmore Estate, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home, Candler. Mrs. Cogburn was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Cleate and Ida Rhodes Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon George Cogburn (a 44-year employee of Biltmore Dairies) who died in 1981, and by a daughter, Ellen Gibson in 1996. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Pruitt of Asheville and Betty Hunting of Charlotte; one son, Vernon G. “Junior” Cogburn, Jr. of Arden; twelve grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Bray officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Pisgah Manor Health Care Center, 95 Holcombe Cove Road, Candler, NC 28715.
