Margaret Neilson Brookshire, 95, formerly of Asheville, died Tuesday, December 25, 2001, at her home in Newport News, VA.
Mrs. Brookshire lived in Asheville for 80 years before moving to Newport News last year. She was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church and was married to the late F.E. Brookshire.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara McDonald of Winston-Salem; one son, Donald Brookshire of Newport News; one brother, Alan Neilson of Asheville; three grandchildren, Alan and Richard McDonald of Winston-Salem and Catherine McGee of Kernersville; four great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Judson, Eric, and Brittany McDonald and many nieces and nephews including a special niece Judy Johnson and a special nephew, Jim Crawford, both of Yorktown, VA.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lewis Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

She was my mother’s dearest and best friend. Janie Lunsford is my mother.
My mother passed away March 1998.
