Asheville Butterfly TrailMr. Hubbard was born in Hickory and was a son of the late Tilden and Hattie Bentley Hubbard. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Dora Hubbard and Lucille Hubbard.
He lived in Asheville for 54 years and had worked for the Lions Club Industries for the blind for 47 years. Although he was blind all his life, he took pride in the fact that maintained his independence and never drew welfare checks or food stamps.
He was a wonderful husband and father and is survived by three step-daughters, Mildred Bates, Dovie Narehood, and Melita Metcalf; three step-sons, Bill, Alvin and Paul Lunsford; three sisters, Evelinea Calloway, Mano Lindasy, and Bonny Killian, all of Granite Falls; one brother, Fred Hubbard of Hickory; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Guy officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
His family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
We are very sorry for your loss. Mr Hubbard was a very dear friend and will be deeply missed. We lived on Ann Street for years and came to think of him as part of our family. Our prayers are with you during this difficult time and we know he’s in Heaven seeing more than we can dare imagine. May God be with you.
