Robey McKinley Harrison, 84, of Fletcher, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003. Mr. Harrison was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Albert Benjamin and Mattie Smart Harrison and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Alene Marlowe Harrison who died in 1988, a brother Herman Benjamin Harrison, sisters Mary Lorraine Harper and Sally Beatrice Earwood, and a grandson Steve McKinley Harrison, Jr. He was a member of Emma’s Grove Baptist Church where he served as Trustee, Chairman of the Deacons, Administrator of the Cemetery Committee and assistant Choir Director. He served with the US Army during WW II and was a retired route salesman with Rainbow Bakery. He is survived by his wife with whom he shared 13 years of loving marriage, Louise Rogers Harrison; one daughter, Gwendolyn Harrison Lyda of Fairview; one son, Steve McKinley Harrison, Sr. and his wife Claudia Moore Harrison of Fletcher; one step-daughter Patricia Rogers Scott of Asheville; three sisters, Jean Harrison Brooks of Newport News, VA, Geneva Harrison Gasperson of Fletcher and Jane Harrison Hardin of Fairview; three brothers, Herbert Andrew Harrison of Lawndale, Melvin Robert Harrison of Jacksonville, FL and Van Hardin Harrison of Charlotte; a grandson Cecil W. Lyda, Jr. and his wife Michelle; a granddaughter Elizabeth Harrison Price and her husband Robert; a great-grandson Kevin Jessie Lyda; two great-granddaughters Rachel Kristin Lyda and Madeline Mae Price; four step-grandchildren, Jason Scott, Nathan Scott, Kristina Scott-Hammock and Melody H. Lindsey and four step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Emma’s Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. H.L. Wilson, Scott Thompson and Donnie Chapman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and at other times will be at the home of the daughter, Gwen Lyda, 46 Robey Drive, Fletcher. Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or memorials may be made to Emma’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 1786, Fairview, NC 28730.
