Clare Wallace McDowell, 86, of Givens Estates, Asheville, died Sunday, October 14, 2001.

Miss McDowell was born in Asheville and was a daughter of the late Ernest G. and Clare Wallace McDowell. She was a graduate of Asheville High School and attended the Plonk School. She began her career as a secretary at Moore General Hospital and transferred to the Asheville VA Medical Center before retiring in 1976 as secretary to the hospital Director.

She was former president and district governor of the Pilot Club and was a member of the DAR, the UDC, Central United Methodist Church and the Time and Tide Club.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 am Friday at Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Carol Ploch officiating.

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.
