Asheville Butterfly TrailMrs. Lakowicz was born in Memphis, TN and was a daughter of the late Ernest Henry Gates and Helen Starnes Gates Langley. She had lived in Asheville for 29 years and was married to Roger A. Lakowicz who died February 29, 2000.
She was a graduate of Mercy Hospital Street Memorial School of Nursing in Vicksburg, MS, and worked from 1972 - 1995 with the Federal Government as an Occupational Health Nurse at the Department of Commerce, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her son, Robert M. Jolly and daughter-in-law Brenda DeLano of Evanston, IL; daughter, Karen J. MacDonald and son-in-law Richard MacDonald, and grandchildren Wesley and Meghan, all of Jacksonville, FL, and daughter ELizabeth J. Kelley and son-in-law Brian Kelley and grandchildren, Scott, Jamie and Ashley all of Clinton, MS; and one brother, W.T. Gates and sister-in-law June Gates of Brandon, MS.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Pete Peery officiating. Entombment will follow at Lewis Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
My sincere condolences to you at this time. I worked with your Mother for many years and considered her a very dear friend. My prayers are with you.

I worked with Ann for nmany years and considered her a friend. She was so kind to me when my husband, Henry, passed away. She loved her family and I know you will miss her greatly. I am not able to come to the funeral home as I had eye surgery today, but my thoughts are with you all.
I very much enjoyed having Ann as a neighbor at Laurelwood. We will miss her. My brother, Phil Clouse, worked at the federal building and said Ann was the best nurse possible.
I worked with Ann for many years at the Federal Bldg. I considered her my friend and a good nurse. I will never forget her. May God Bless the family. Donna Lefler
