Eleanor ''Betty Lou'' Virginia Thomas

Eleanor Virginia “Betty Lou” Thomas, 73, formerly of Tampa Avenue, West Asheville, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Givens Estates. Mrs. Thomas was born in Charlotte and was a daughter of the late Stanley Patterson and Marie Virginia Sisemore Moore, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Thomas, Jr. and by her brother, Stanley Patterson Moore, Jr. She was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, class of 1943 and St. Genevieve Secretarial School. She attended Berea College and was retired from Clyde Savings and Loan. She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Credit Women’s Breakfast Club. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. She is survived by one daughter, Ann Marie Yarborough Broadbent; two grandchildren, Laurean Broadbent and Mary Broadbent; two nieces, Melissa Moore and Nancy Ellis; one nephew, Tom Moore; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Anne Moore of Morristown, TN. A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Father Steve Hines will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 219 Chunns Cove Rd., Asheville, NC 28805. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.
