Evelyn M. Cauble Parris, 81, of 229 School Road, Malvern Hills, Asheville, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at the Hospice Solace Center.

Mrs. Parris was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was born November 12, 1919, to the late Clarence E. and Edith Brown Cauble.

She retired after 30 years of teaching, primarily at Ira B. Jones and Black Mountain Elementary Schools.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James H. Parris, Jr., who was a WW II POW. Following their retirement, they traveled extensively, organizing and working with Prisoner of War clubs. Mrs. Parris held various offices in state and national clubs and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Shriner Auxiliary, NC Retired Government Employees Association, Kappa Kappa Iota, and former member of the Junior Women’s Club, the Rhododendron Club, and various other civic organizations.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Parris is survived by her sister, Mary Love Shelly of Lake Norman, NC; a niece, Mary Fernanders of Indiana; several cousins, and wonderful neighbors and friends.

A service to celebrate the life of Evelyn Parris will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Gayle D. Brown, Ronald O. Brown, and Ralph L. Reed officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Paul Meeker, Reece Edwards, Russell Rhinehart, Floyd Brown, Jr., Dick Seidenspinner, and David Carpenter.

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Monday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence, 229 School Road, Malvern Hills.

Her family and friends wish to express appreciation to the staff of Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center for their loving care and support.
