C. LARRY HAWKINS ASHEVILLE – C. Larry Hawkins, 77, of Bees Mountain Dr., died peacefully Monday, December 27, 2010, at St. Joseph's Campus, Mission Hospital, surrounded by his family. A native of Asheville, he was a son of the late Walter C. and Marie Reel Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School. He was a delivery route driver for Biltmore Dairy Farms for 26 years, and was the last home delivery man for Biltmore. More recently he worked for 9 years at Bob Lawrence Power Equip. Co. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1954. He was a member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge, a founding member of the Old Timers Model A Club, and a member of West Asheville Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife, Meredith Plemmons Hawkins; daughters Mary Sue Jones Fields of Winder, GA, and Becki Walker and husband, David, of Black Mountain; son Bruce Hawkins and wife, Renea, of Asheville; grandchildren Nate Hathcock, Josh Hathcock, Brandon Hawkins, and Brittany Byers; and great-grandchildren Christian, Alec, and Ethan Hathcock. A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at West Asheville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Stan Welch officiating. Interment will follow in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. His family will receive friends two hours prior to the service Thursday at the church. The family wishes to express special appreciation to the Oncology Department at St. Jospeh's Campus, Mission Hospital, and to special friend, Kit Conrad. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Asheville Baptist Church Building Fund, 926 Haywood Rd., Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.

  4. Dear Family, Larry and I go way back; especially at WABC. I always enjoyed his stable friendship. He never changed. I recall his milk delivery and purchasing from him down on Broadway.
