Arden – Grant Wells Lane, 78, died Friday, December 24, 2010 at his residence. He was the son of the late Okie and Emma Wells Lane. He retired from Durham Life Insurance Company where he worked for over 35 years. Grant was a mason of the Scottish Rite, member of the Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217 and Master of the 32nd degree for 53 years. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy aboard the USS Cony DDE508. Surviving is his wife of over 56 years, Jean Hurt Lane; daughter, Sherrie Lane Hygon and her husband Bill and their two sons, Ryan and Justin Hygon; daughter Debbie Lane and her son Austin Patton. Grant had a great sense of humor and a generous heart. He loved and appreciated his family and friends and there was always a special place in his heart for his grandsons. He made a positive difference in the lives he touched. Family and friends will miss him deeply. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity, or he would have liked you to do something to brighten the life of someone less fortunate than you. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Reverend Stephen Summers officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
