Dorothy Smith Waddell

Dorothy Pauline Smith Waddell, 87, of Asheville, died Friday, December 15, 2000. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Patterson Smith and Lena Swink Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude C. Waddell Sr. who was a former Asheville Police Chief; sisters, Ella Mae Smith, Ida (Cissie) Raiford, Pearl Ferguson and brother Harry Smith. She was was retired from the VA Medical Center as switchboard supervisor. She is survived by her sons, Claude C. Waddell, Jr., and Kenneth K. Waddell of Asheville; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Bellflower officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Kenneth Waddell, 1 Locust Avenue.
