William Woodward Macon, 91, of 51 Dillingham Circle, died Sunday, December 3, 2000, in a local hospital.

A native of Savannah, GA, he had been a Buncombe County resident since 1971. He was a son of the late William Woodward and Hattie Queen Rackley Macon. He served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1963 and retired as a flight engineer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Swannanoa.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Fortune Macon; three daughters, Brenda Nagle of FL, Margaret Lytle and Mary Crisp of Asheville; six sons, William W. Macon, M. Lewis Burgan and John M. Macon of FL, Charles Hensley, Landon Hensley and Jim Hensley of Asheville; sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Swannanoa with the Reverend Jerry Pereira officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 pm at the church prior to the service.
