Richard Wilbur Smith, 77, of 18 Dixon Terrace, Candler, died Thursday, November 30, 2000 in a
Asheville hospital.
Born in Haywood County, he had lived in Forest Park, GA for 30 years before returning to Candler. He was a son of the late Mark B. and Minnie Payne Smith. He was also preceded in
death by a son, Larry A. Smith; brothers, Mark Smith Jr., Lloyd Smith; and sister, Glennie S. Young. He was a WW II US Navy Veteran serving in
the South Pacific and the European Theater on the D Day Invasion. He was retired from ABF Truck Lines and was a former Instructor for Alliance Trucking School and ITI.
His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Nash Smith; son, J. Ronald Smith and his wife Vera; daughter-in-law, Lucy Smith; sisters,
Annie Goodson and Hattie Miles; grandchildren and spouses, Steve and Sandy Smith, Brian and Kerri Smith, Alan and Brooke Smith, Karen Smith
and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Revs.
Paul Mullinax and Jack W. Collins will officiate with burial following in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends 7-8:30 Saturday at the funeral home.
