Asheville Butterfly TrailMrs. Walker was born in Asheville and was a daughter of the late Charles B. and Nina Miller Joyner. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Martha M. Gaddis. She was a retired federal employee and was a member of Hiram, GA. United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church in Asheville.
She is survived by two brothers, Joe Joyner of Weaverville and Charles Joyner of Treadway, TN; three grandchildren, Kim McGarr, Paul A. Gaddis and Mark E. Gaddis, and two great-grandchildren, Colin and Connor McGarr.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 pm Sunday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Reed officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
Aunt Mary loved those oysters! And she cared about the hearts of those around her. Every Christmas Eve, she and I sat in the backseat of the car on the way to Joe’s, holding hands, laughing & giggling…and just loving each other. Everyone at UNCA Cafeteria knew her by name and gave her hugs when she went there to eat with them. Benjamin’s favorite memory was that Aunt Mary let him jump on her bed! She was loved by us, by all of us.
Our prayers are with you in your time of loss.
Aunt Mary was always the most fun! There was never a dull moment when she was around.
We will all miss her.

I loved aunt Mary very much,she always brought a smile to your face and you could tell she loved life.My prayers are with all who will miss her very much.I hope I will be lucky enough to see her again,someday.Peace.

I was Mary’s Pastor for the last couple of years she was in Asheville. She was a wonderful lady and is greatly missed. She always had a good word for me God Bless.
