Catherine Fortson Lacy

Born June 9, 1924 in Augusta, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late S. Donald and Edith Marks Fortson and wife of the late Dr. George R. Lacy, Jr.

Mrs. Lacy graduated magna cum laude from Wheaton College. She was the founder and first chairwoman of the Asheville Christian Women’s Club and a founding member of the board of directors of the Asheville Christian Day School. She was an avid Bible teacher and a member of the Arden Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Lacy is survived by two daughters, Edith Caroline Lacy of Atlanta, GA, Catherine Lacy Anderson of Asheville; a son, G. Rufus Lacy, III of Summerville, SC; four grandchildren, Jessica Elizabeth Lacy, David Christopher Lacy, Margaret Grace Anderson and Kathryn Renee Anderson; a sister, Elizabeth F. Baxter of Dothan, Ala. and a brother, Rev. S. Donald Fortson, Jr. of Black Mountain.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday in Arden Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Ed Graham.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
