E.F. "SARGE" ALBERTS ASHEVILLE - Edward Francis "Sarge" Alberts, 78, formerly of West Asheville, died Sunday, October 31, 2010. Mr. Alberts was born in Keokuk, IA and was a son of the late Edward F. Alberts and Frances Ann Kimbrough Alberts Lillard. He was married to Peggy Sue Littleton Alberts, who died in 1991. He retired after 20 years in the US Army and was the co-owner of A&M Auto Service. More recently he was a jewelry instructor at Haywood Community College Continuing Education with special interests in casting and lapidary. He was a founding member of Mountain Metalsmiths Assn. He is survived by two sons, Dale L. (Doris) Alberts of Asheville and David F. (Ruthie Cohen) of Arden; two grandchildren, Edward and Meagan Alberts, and two sisters, Doris Burchett and Cecilia McLaughlin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, and at the home of son David, 197 Locust Court, Arden. Burial will be with his wife at Keokuk, IA, National Cemetery.

    So sorry to hear of the passing of Sarge. Man the stories I could tell! Sarge was the best Automotive Technician I ever had the privilege to know and work with. He was also a very good friend to me and my family. Sarge never met a stranger and always had time to help someone in need. God be with you in this time of sorrow.
