ASHEVILLE – Charles Lee Epley, Jr., 89, died Monday, October 18, 2010, at the John F. Keever Hospice solace Center.
A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Charles Lee Epley, Sr. and Madge Robinson Epley. He was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Michael Epley, sisters, Louise Epley Bell and Frances Young, and brother, Preston Epley.
Mr. Epley was a 1937 graduate of Haw Creek High School and was a WW II Navy veteran, having served at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He retired in 1985 after 41 years with the US Postal Service. He was a loyal and faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church since 1963, where he served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Pauline Bell Epley; two sons, Timothy Allan Epley and his wife Danette, and Kevin Howard Epley and his wife, Vicki; three grandchildren, Joshua Grant Epley and Holly Ann Epley of Boone and Emily Grace Epley of Asheville; and a brother, Kenneth Epley of Charlotte.
Private interment will be at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tom Patterson officiating .

I worked with Charles at the Post Office during the late 70’s – early 80’s. He was a fine gentleman and a pleasure to work with. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
